Last Friday the Halloween was rocking the night with all the fun and scary costumes and parties. The usual witches, vampires, pumpkins and superheroes were all over the place. But there was one more character that managed to win the love of every little girl and make it to the Halloween dress up party – Queen Elsa from “Frozen”. The New York Times video will tell us more about it.

“Frozen” has become one of the favorite cartoons for millions of children and adults all over the world. If you haven’t seen it, you should. Meanwhile here are some fun facts about “Frozen” you might not have known:

To help create the character Sven, an actual live reindeer was brought to the studio. This helped the animators to make Sven's behavior and mannerisms as accurate as possible, even down to the way the reindeer scratched his nose with his hind leg.
Elsa is the only Disney princess who is not a teenager. She is 21 and her sister Anna is 18.
Josh Gad, who played Olaf, improvised most of his lines. Josh did his best to make the producers laugh, and they kept the best of the best!
Frozen is the highest-grossing animated film in history. It has made over $1.07 billion and is still raking in the cash!
There is a disclaimer about “Boogers” in the Credits.Remember Kristoff’s line claiming that all men picked their boogers and ate them? Well apparently Disney wanted to distance themselves from this claim. The credit reads, “The views and opinions expressed by Kristoff in the film that all men eat their own boogers are solely his own and do not represent the views or opinions of The Walt Disney Company.”

In order to understand this video we’ll need to know the following words.

Language 1

The whole place is gonna be, you know, decorated with a Frozen and all that stuff.

Have you ever wondered what “gonna” is? Since we can hear it twice in this video, I guess it’s time to tell all about it. “Gonna be” is a reduction of the phrase “going to be”. It’s often used in the spoken American English since people do tend to simplify the language. So instead of saying “going to” clearly and nicely, we just blend those two words together into “gonna”.
This is not the reduction that you can hear or use while speaking English. Some others include:
Want to = wanna
Kind of = kinda
Sort of = sorta
Have to = halfta
Reductions are really common at the beginnings of the questions:
Are you…? = arya
Can you…? = kinya
Could you…? = kudja
Would you…? = wudja
Did you…? = didja
Do you…? = dija
Don’t you…? = doncha
Will you…? = wilja
Do you want to? = diyawanna
Are you going to…? = aryagonna
Do you have to…? = dijahafta
While using reductions it’s important to remember that you need to pronounce it a bit faster and emphasize the main verb in the sentence.

NOTE: reductions are not used in formal or written language.

In this Language part I decided to draw your attention to the phrase “a must have”. We know that “must” is a modal verb that expresses obligation.
A must – is a noun, which was created from the modal verb and means “necessity, requirement”
This book is a must for future doctors. – in this sentence “a must” replaces a phrase “is required to be read by” or “must be read”.
A must have – the phrase will also help us to simplify our sentence during writing or speaking.
“She is a must have for her fans.” means that all her fans are crazy about having this costume, it’s an absolute necessity.
Though not all the following phrases are in the dictionary, a must can be used with other verbs to create new phrases with the meaning “absolutely necessary to do smth”:
A must see
A must watch
A must own
A must read
A must buy
A must know
A must try
A must visit
