Who created the textbook and how?

The textbook was created by 10 different authors, and the whole process of creation was led by the Teaching Centre by Nadiya Diachuk. Additionally, around 20 Green Forest employees and several other companies were involved in assisting with the textbook's creation: writing exercises, text content, designing the printed and online versions, formatting online platforms and their content, selecting colors and paper for printing, printing thousands of copies, and delivering the finished textbooks on time to the 14 Green Forest offices throughout Ukraine.

When writing the textbook, our authors predominantly followed the Communicative Approach, which is currently the most popular approach in language teaching worldwide. As for grammar and vocabulary instruction, they relied on the Guided Discovery Approach. Furthermore, in the textbook, our authors utilized aspects of various teaching methods, both traditional and more contemporary ones, such as the Grammar Translation method, Task-Based (TBL) Approach, Test-Teach-Test (TTT) Approach, Audio-Lingual Method, Total Physical Response, and others. This is why the textbook is diverse and suitable for different types of students, including auditory, visual, conservative learners, and even Generation Z :)

If you're curious about why we chose this name, it's a piece of cake: "Notes" refers to those small sticky papers on which everyone writes important information so as not to lose it. That's why in the textbook you will encounter plenty of them on pages with interesting facts, rules, and tips.

What distinguishes Notes from other text books?

Someone might say, "WTF, where's your textbook, where's the Longman's written by native speakers from Great Britain". We have 17 years of continuous teaching experience with various textbooks behind us, so we've seen them all. They are indeed of high quality, and we by no means claim that our textbook is better. We're not comparing ourselves to them. However, we believe that our Notes is best suited for Ukrainian students because it was specifically developed for them. 1. Up-to-dateness. The textbook "Notes by Green Forest" is the most modern English language textbook in Ukraine. Textbooks for the levels Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, and Upper-Intermediate were published in 2018, while parts of Starter and Advanced were published in 2019. Needless to say, having ten editions of a reputable British textbook is great, but having a brand-new textbook with up-to-date topics and content is even much better. 2. A special Ukrainian approach to learning English. The content of the textbook has been carefully designed to engage Ukrainian students specifically. The authors of each section have extensive experience working with students who are learning English in Ukraine. Drawing from their own teaching experience, they structured the textbook to be user-friendly for Ukrainians. When creating tasks, exercises, and explanations, they took into account the peculiarities of how our students perceive certain grammatical and lexical topics.

3. Content. Did you know that many British textbooks have taboo topics that are not used for any type of exercises in textbooks at all? These topics include politics, religion, sex, and other provocative subjects. In Notes by Green Forest, there are no such taboos whatsoever. We believe that all these topics are part of our everyday life and should not be excluded from the process of learning English. On the contrary, they should be added for discussion. Because it's precisely these topics that evoke students' feelings, interest, and a desire to talk and even debate that make the learning process more engaging and exciting.

4. Affordability. Over the past few years, the cost of British or American textbooks has sometimes reached half the price of the course, which, of course, had to be purchased separately. Our printed textbook, firstly, consists of a single book that includes both the textbook and workbook, and secondly, it is very affordable, priced at just 350 UAH.

2. Own video and audio content

In addition to creating our own textbook, we've also decided to produce our own audio and video content as a complement. For this purpose, we've established a dedicated department within our company. This department commissions texts written by our teachers and authors from around the world, invites native speakers and our teachers to provide voice overs for these texts, and records videos in various locations and formats, including dialogues, explanations, and mini-interviews. By the way, no CDs are involved. Our textbook is modern, and its content is up-to-date. In the printed version of the textbook, you can activate the audio by merely scanning a QR code, and in the online version, everything is integrated directly into the textbook.
