Today we are going to find out about one more kind of war – a whiskey war in Tennessee – the home of one the most popular kinds of whiskey in the world. CBS This Morning will explain how whiskey can be controversial. Background – names, organizations and event you should know about: Tennessee whiskey is straight bourbon whiskey produced in Tennessee (The USA). However, most current producers of Tennessee whiskey disclaim references to their products as "Bourbon". Since Tennessee whiskey goes through slow filtration through maple charcoal before getting into the barrel while bourbon is filtered right before being bottled. As the result the drink has really smooth taste and distinctive aroma. George Dickel is a brand of Tennessee whiskey produced in Cascade Hollow, Tennessee. George Dickel's Tennessee Whisky uses the traditional Scottish spelling of whisky (as opposed to whiskey) because Dickel believed his product to be as smooth and high in quality as the best Scotch whiskies. The distillery is part of the American Whiskey Trail and offers tours to the public. Jack Daniel's is a brand of sour mash Tennessee whiskey that is the highest selling American whiskey in the world, which is produced in Lynchburg, Tennessee, the USA since the 19th century. The drink consists of 80% corn, 12% barley and 8%rye and based on clear spring water and contains about 40% of alcohol. Despite being the location of a major operational distillery, Jack Daniel's home county of Moore is a dry county, so the product is not available for consumption at stores or restaurants within the county. George Dickel now says the state’s law should never have been passed.
Should never have been passed is another example of Past Modals, that are used to speculate about events in the past. |
Should never have been passed – это еще один пример Past Modals, используемых для обсуждения событий в прошлом. Этот past modal используется для критики действий в прошлом. Также мы можем заменить should ought to без изменения значения. |
Should/Ought to + (not) have + V3 (third form of irregular verb or regular verb +ed) |
|
Also I want to draw your attention to the following facts: 1. This critical phrase uses never instead of not in order to intensify negative opinion about it. 2. The verb is used in passive voice so instead of Have + V3 it becomes Have Been + V3 A couple of examples: |
Также я хочу обратить ваше внимание на следующие вещи: 1. В этом критическом выражении используется never вместо not, чтобы усилить негативное отношение. 2. Глагол используется в пассивном состоянии, поэтому вместо Have+V3 используем Have Been+V3 Несколько примеров: |

Меня не предупредили о решении.) They shouldn’t have been threatened with imprisonment. (Somebody threatened them with imprisonment. Им угрожали тюрьмой.) |
