Давайте подумаємо про усі переваги, але також не будемо забувати про загрози та інтернет-безпеку.

Happy birthday to the World Wide Web!

The World Wide Web was first proposed 29 years ago on the 12th March, and this year marks a milestone in the web’s history: for the first time, we will cross the point when more than half of the world’s population will be online.
The WWW was officially invented 29 years ago today when Sir Tim Berners-Lee, British computer scientist, wrote his proposal for a new information system at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).
"Vague, but exciting," his supervisor wrote on the cover of the document, greeting an invention which would transform the world's economy - and its society too.

On the 29th birthday of the web, here are its 8 most important developments

1 Video streaming
Once upon a time, videos had to be downloaded in their entirety before they could be watched. It took a lot of software engineers a lot of work to develop a system that allowed videos to be streamed, or watched at the same time as they were downloaded. 

2  News websites
There was a time when we had to unfold a small gazebo covering in order to find out what was happening in the world around us. News websites make that process much easier. Benefits include quicker access to big stories which affect our lives. 

3 E-commerce
E-commerce positives are obvious. There's nothing worse than actually leaving the house, so the opportunity to sit in our underwear and be the consumers is perhaps the quintessential experience that the web can offer us. From auction sites through to cheap retail outlets, from clothes to pizza, the ability for us to shop online has generated an enormous amount of economic activity.

4 Cryptography
With the help of the Internet, the access to public cryptography is now widespread. Encryption has enabled e-commerce and e-customers to defend themselves from hackers, and those same hackers and their terrorist friends to defend themselves from law enforcement.

5 Games
To some video games are nothing more than an attempt to cash-in on the male fantasy. To others they are a form of art, which is now easily collaborated on by developers, sold by games labels, and downloaded and played by gamers all thanks to the wonders of the web. 

6 Social media
Social media is a web-owned phenomenon, where the content is created by the users. Those same users interact with that content and generate data which the social media platform provider monetises via advertisements. 

7 Memes
Memes are a definitive artefact of web culture. While it was first proposed to mean a kind of cognitive information which spread from person to person, memes are now viral items of content. 

8 Online dating
We are not just talking about apps here, but the ability to interact with thousands of strangers a day who are seeking what you are.

Ті, хто вивчають англійську, часто плутають слова affect та effect, що є омофонами. У чому ж різниця?  Affect – це дієслово, яке означає «мати вплив», в той час як effect – це частіше іменник, і він має значення «результат».

• cheap retail outlets – дешеві роздрібні магазини.
• has generated an enormous amount of economic activity – спричинило величезну економічну активність.

• artefact – артефакт, будь-який штучно створений предмет, продукт людської діяльності. Захотілося дати визначення, бо чомусь ми помилково вважаємо, що артефакт – це предмет давнини.
• viral items of content – вірусні одиниці контенту.
• to interact with thousands of strangers a day who are seeking what you are – взаємодіяти з тисячами незнайомців на день, які шукають того ж, що й ви.
