The Time of Day
- Morning – any time between 12am to 12pm - ранок
- Noon – it refers to 12pm and is the start of the afternoon - полудень
- Afternoon – any time between 12pm to 6pm - обід
- Evening - any time between 6pm to 12am - вечір
- Midnight – As its name suggests, "midnight" refers to the middle of the night, which is any time between 12am to 3am - північ
Asking for time
- What time is it?/What is the time? – Котра година?
- Could you tell me the time please? – Можете, будь-ласка, сказати котра година?
- Do you have the time? –У Вас є де подивитись час?
- What time are we meeting? – Коли ми зустрічаємось?
Telling the time
When you are referring to the exact time, there are two ways in which you can do this:
- • Say the hour first, followed by the minutes:
8:20 - It's eight twenty
10:05 - It's ten o-five
17:40 – It’s five forty
- Say the minutes first followed by the hour:
4:35 - It's twenty-five to five
3:20 - It's twenty past three
19:18 - It's eighteen past seven
- Quarter past – чверть після
- Half past – половина після
- Quarter to – чверть до
Expressions with alarm clock
- Put/Set the alarm clock (for…) – Завести будильник (на …)
- The alarm clock didn’t go off this morning. – Будильник не спрацював цього ранку.
- The alarm clock didn’t ring. – Будильник не задзвонив.
- Switch on/off an alarm clock. – Ввімкнути/вимкнути будильник.

Abbreviations:
- AM = Ante meridiem (from Latin): Before noon – до полудня
- PM = Post meridiem (from Latin): After noon – після полудня
At or In
- “At” is only used to describe specific times. It might be to describe a particular numerical time on the clock (з точним часом).
- “In” is used in phrases that describe a more general period of time, that doesn’t have a specific clock time or time of day (з загальним періодом часу).
Some useful expressions
- The clock is five minutes fast or slow. – У годиннику погрішність у п’ять хвилин.
- At exactly five o’clock. – Точно в п’ять годин.
- At five o’clock sharp. – Рівно в п’ять годин.
- By five o’clock at the latest. – Не пізніше п’яти годин.
- About five o’clock. – Приблизно в п’ять годин.
- Until ten o’clock. – До десятої години.
- On time - at the planned time – вчасно.
- In time - ‘before the last moment’ – вчасно.
