GENERAL FORM OF PASSIVE VOICE

Subject + to be + V ad/ V3 + by + Object

WE USE PASSIVE VOICE

• when it's not important who or what is performing the action, but the action itself is important:
  Active: They produce most gadgets in Asia. (we don't know who exactly produces them)
  Passive: Most gadgets are produced in Asia.
   
• when we don't know who is a performer of the action:
  Active: Someone stole my sister's bike yesterday. (we don't know who stole it)
  Passive: My sister's bike was stolen yesterday.

USE IT RIGHT! 

To show who did the action, we use 'by":
e.g.: This house was built by my grandfather.
