People love mysteries, but unfortunately most of them are connected with some tragic events. Last week one more mystery appeared – a plane with 239 people on board just disappeared. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 is a scheduled flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing, China. On 8 March 2014, the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200ER operating the flight disappeared with 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board. The cause remains unknown.

South China Sea - is a part of the Pacific Ocean, located between China, Indochina peninsula, the islands of Borneo, the Philippines and Taiwan; around 3,500,000 square km, up to 5560m deep; numerous islands and coral reefs; typhoons; holds huge oil and gas reserves beneath its seabed.

And now replace the highlighted phrases in the following sentences by the ones we learnt. If you have difficulties with the task, try watching and inserting necessary phrases at the same time.

May have turned is an example of Past Modals, that are used to speculate about events in the past.
This past modal one is used to guess about different explanations of some events. Usually when we use may have V3, we don’t know what happened and try to assume possible course of events.  
We also can use could or might to replace may without change in meaning.

May have turned – це приклад Past Modals, що використовуються для обговорення подій в минулому. Це past modalвикористовується, щоб висловити здогадки про різні пояснення подій. Зазвичай коли ми використовуємо may have V3, ми не знаємо, що трапилося і намагаємося робити припущення про можливий перебіг подій.
Ми також можемо використовувати could чи might замість may без зміни значення.

May/Might/Could + have + V3 (third form of irregular verb or regular verb +ed)

–    He may have forgotten about it.
–    Or he might have got into an accident.

-    Then don’t guess. Just call him and ask!

Всі попередні пояснення можливі, але немає доказів, що будь-яке з них правдиве.

So far, the investigators have not ruled anything out, they haven’t ruled out hijacking.

So far has nothing to do with the distance in this case. It refers to a moment in time, particularly up to and including right now. It is placed at the beginning or the ending of the sentence.

Всі попередні пояснення можливі, але немає доказів, що будь-яке з них правдиве.

• So far the archeologists haven’t discovered anything valuable.
• I haven’t seen a better movie so far.
• The vacation has been quite enjoyable, so far. (In this case comma is used to imply that maybe that will change and the trip won’t be that enjoyable. У цьому випадку кома використовується, щоб вказати на те, що можливо ситуація зміниться і подорож не буде такою ж приємною.)

Також so far можна замінити наступними фразами:
