(The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows), в якому представляє новостворені слова для найменування сильних емоцій сучасної людини. Серед них найпопулярнішими стали такі, як:

  • Sonder (noun) – the realization that each passerby has a life as vivid and complex as your own.
  • Opia (noun) – the ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye, which can feel simultaneously invasive and vulnerable.
  • Rubatosis (noun) – the unsettling awareness of your own heartbeat.
  • Jouska (noun) – a hypothetical conversation that you play out in your head.
  • Vemodalen (noun) – the frustration of photographing something amazing when thousands of identical photos exist.
  • Anecdoche (noun) – a conversation in which everyone is talking and nobody is listening.

Славнозвісний Oxford Dictionary, який щороку обирає найпопулярніші слова, опублікував короткий список лексичних одиниць, які ввійшли до загального вжитку в 2015 році:

  • Ad blocker (noun): A piece of software designed to prevent advertisements from appearing on a web page. “You need to set an ad blocker, I can’t stand all these pop-up adverts.”
  • Brexit (noun): A term for the potential or hypothetical departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union, from British + exit. “Supporters of the Brexit base their opinion on a variety of factors from the global competitiveness of British businesses to concerns about immigration.”
  • Dark Web (noun): The part of the World Wide Web that is only accessible by means of special software, allowing users and website operators to remain anonymous or untraceable. “Wow, I just went on the dark web, and in a few minutes, I was able to find heroin, meth, LSD, automatic weapons, and a stolen credit card!”
  • On fleek (adjectival phrase): Extremely good, attractive, or stylish. “Kesha's eyebrows were on fleek.”
  • Lumbersexual (noun): A young urban man who cultivates an appearance and style of dress (typified by a beard and check shirt) suggestive of a rugged outdoor lifestyle. “You can find all the hottest Lumbersexuals that live in NYC at Rochelle's on Chrystie Street.”

Проте, переможцем в номінації слово року вперше за всю історію стала піктографія, а саме – смайлик під назвою “обличчя зі сльозами щастя”, так як його у 2015-му використовували найбільше.

Невже це означає, що ми перестанемо використовувати слова і почнемо спілкуватися за допомогою смайлів? Саме так може виглядати наше спілкування через кілька років:
